A Magical Christmas at Airfield

Nestled close to Dundrum village is a 38 acre working farm called Airfield.

The farm, and home, was once owned by the Overend sisters who generously passed on their estate to the people of Ireland. It is now run as a charitable organisation for learning and enjoyment. Along with the farm, the grounds also accommodate wonderful gardens, a lovely purpose built café serving produce grown on the farm, woodlands, and play areas for the kiddies.

Now, a very special person has taken up residence in the beautiful old house at Airfield for the run up to Christmas…

SANTA CLAUS!

And with plenty of room for all the elves he definitely chose a great spot to rest up before his enormous workload ahead.

We decided to pay him a visit there with the boys just to make sure he’d received all the letters!

At the start of our visit we were taken by a guide through the graceful walled garden, towards the Overend family home.

The house, which was transformed into a scene of Christmas past, was set for breakfast traditional style.

After we were led through the house it was time to visit Santa, who was sitting by the fireplace waiting for all the boys and girls.

Santa at Airfield was, of course, kind and wise. He told stories to the little ones, asked them what they would like for Christmas, and just as it was time to leave he gave everyone a gift before they all headed off to visit his workshop.

At the workshop, when everyone had settled down at the desks, another of Santa’s elves showed the children how to make a Christmas tree with a wish enclosed to hang on Airfield’s Christmas tree.

Next it was time for everyone to board the Christmas train and visit the new arrivals - Santa’s reindeer.

Before it was time to go, we stopped off at the gingerbread village for mince pies and hot chocolate, which really hit the spot after our walk around the farm in the crisp December air.

And took a peek at the gingerbread village which filled an entire room.

The Christmas at Airfield experience takes about an hour and a half, and comes highly recommended by the boys!

Ticket prices are 20 euro for children and 10 euro for adults, pre booking is essential.
