Bedtime Drink | Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey

I'm a little obsessed with getting a good night's sleep. So when I heard about this concoction from Tim Ferriss for a tranquillising bedtime drink I knew I had to try it...

What you'll need:
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp organic honey

How to make it:

Add the cider vinegar and the honey to the hot water. Stir well and drink before bed.

Best selling American author, Tim Ferriss, says that this bedtime drink practically guarantees a better nights sleep. While there are lots of great health benefits gained from including apple cider vinegar in your diet, Tim says he's not 100% sure why this drink is so effective before bed. However, according to him the elimination of lactic acid from the body is the most likely cause of the tranquillising effect. Exercise (or just daily exertion) and extreme stress cause lactic acid to build up in the body. The amino acids contained in apple cider vinegar act as a antidote relaxing the body and in turn the mind.

He also mentions this particular brand of apple cider vinegar on his podcast...

The good news - BRAGG organic apple cider vinegar is available in Ireland. Ours came from The Hopsack in Rathmines.

I know it's a little unusual to drink something acidic before bed (usually I go for a cup of soothing rooibos or camomile tea), but I do like it. David on the other hand can't stand it! So as an alternative, apparently a tablespoon of honey right before bed can improve his chances of a good night's sleep too. People have also sworn that this mix of honey and apple cider vinegar greatly improves how you greet the day the following morning. So all you groggy, grouchy morning people (like me!) try this and let me know how you get on!
