Ikea #2 | The Bathroom

*This blog post is the second in a series of eight*
Last year, we had a hole in our bath… I have no idea how it got there, but I do know that it happened at a very inconvenient time (as these things do) when we had a newborn and a one year old who, for obvious reasons, needed lots of baths!

Off we went ‘bath shopping’, but also found out that when the bath came out the tiles on the wall would have to be replaced too. I was delighted, I’d wanted to change those wall tiles since we moved in! I also never really loved the floor tiles that were in the bathroom when we bought the house, so I subtly suggested to David that wouldn’t it be a good idea change those at the same time. He agreed, and what followed was something we hadn’t planned at all.
A 'before’ photo we took when we viewed the house:

The base of the toilet was accidentally broken (by us) when the floor tiles were being pulled up, and I guess we must have taken that as a sign or something because after that nothing was safe! Along with the toilet the sink got pulled out, the mirror, light fittings, the shower door, cabinets - our 'hole in the bath’ led to a whole new bathroom.
We spent quite a few weekends trekking around bathroom showrooms for vanity units and bathroom accessories but couldn’t find anything we really loved.
Then one day, fed up of bathroom shops, we decided to take a look in IKEA, and by the time we pulled out of the carpark we had a bootful of bathroom paraphernalia.

We originally bought this MOLGER Ikea mirror for over the sink…

…but once it was on the wall we decided it wasn’t quite right and so replaced it with a HEMNES Ikea mirror. Because it was assembled we couldn’t return it so David came up with an idea to turn it into this:

And the guys who installed our new bathroom were good at customising things!

The shelf turned out great, I especially like that you can’t see any of the clutter on the shelves - unless you stand in the bath!

A definite improvement, and everyone (including these guys) loves a good soak in the new bath.
