Nancy Meyers Style

Ok I'll admit it, I have a treasured collection of Nancy Meyers films. Yep, treasured. Nancy Meyers is one of my all-time favourite writer/directors who's behind films like 'Something's Gotta Give', 'What Women Want', 'The Holiday', 'It's Complicated' and 'The Intern'. Maybe her films aren't in the same league as 'Gone with the Wind' but Meyers is a brilliant oscar nominated writer with box office hits behind her; and I have an insatiable love for romantic comedies with dreamy decor!

I spent last night curled up on the couch with a cup of tea watching 'It's Complicated' for the umpteenth time.  While I love the cute storylines, it's definitely the interiors and set designs that really keep me glued.

I spent the evening swooning, yet again, over Jane's (Meryl Streep) Santa Barbara ranch-style home.

In her movies, Meyers set designs are always breathtakingly beautiful. But what I love most ...her homes always have soul (you really feel that people actually live there!) - which must be really difficult to convey when designing a set. The energy and passion she has ensuring her characters homes are absolutely perfect is impeccable, flawlessly depicting the homes her characters would live in.

While I'm watching, I spend most of the time scanning the set for all the tiny details. The picture frames, the subtle way that things are organised on the coffee table, what types of flowers are displayed. I'm on a mission to uncover what it is that makes these homes so appealing to me. To be honest I still haven't cracked her secret, I feel I'd get an A for effort though!

Her early films like 'Father of the Bride' and 'Baby Boom' definitely had something to do with my love for interior design.

And as a result I now live in a wishful 'Nancy Meyers' home! I find each movie home so inspiring, I often end up replicating an idea or a style in my own home (sometimes without really even realising it). Although usually on a much smaller scale!

Fresh flowers at any opportunity...

Framed posters...

Big bowls of fruit..!

A slightly cluttered butcher block...

Beach panelling...

Candles - everywhere..!

That's just the tip of the iceberg, there are sentiments from most of her films dotted all around.

But my all time favourite Nancy Meyers film has gotta be 'Something's Gotta Give'. Oh that stunning Hampton's beach house with shades of pale pastels, beside the shore.

But that's a photo blast for another day!
